Casablanca Lily Cutter

92ba57b104 Lilies, (casablanca, and other similar fragrant types) do they usually have less blossoms in the first year?I bought some bulbs this spring and they are out(1.5 to 2 feet tall) and with some(1-3) blossoms but I just saw a patch at someone else’s front yard and they are at leat 4 feet tall and all bearing 5-7 buds ready to bloom. I am just wondering if it takes time for mine to settle for the first year.

Yes, age does make a difference. Each year the lily bulbs will become larger clumps with more stems and more flowers. Heighth of the bulb can be age but it also can have to do with the area they are planted. Sometimes lillies will be taller when they have less sun (they stretch looking for more light).

Lily bulbs here in UK are almost always `full size` when sold and will usually give a good show from the first flowering. Other smaller size bulbs can be `grown on` and will produce more flowers when mature. “Casablanca” is a name, not a species of Lily, and needs good soil and growing conditions, and will increase as it matures. Cut of any seed pods after flowering, give a liquid feed, and allow stems to die back naturally.

That is my experience. Once they take up in your ground they will begin to spread and bloom to their specifications. Not all Lilies will be the same size and such, they vary by variety and your soil will also play a role.
Good Luck

I have 1 edge counter tile on my kitchen island that has cracked. I don’t know if this tile is porcelain or ceramic, but I did find the exact replacement at Home Depot. But now I have to cut it down from 6″ wide, to 3 7/8″ wide. Now this is the edge tile that is “L” shaped, and I was told that I couldn’t use a basic tile cutter, and that I needed to rent a wet saw at about $ 40 for the min. 4 hrs. To me, that’s a bit too much just to cut 1 tile! Is there another store that would just cut my tile, or is there a way I can cut it myself? I’ve already tried scoring it with a glass cutter but with no success. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

If you have a grinder just use a masonry blade, slowly run the blade over the cut line over and over like you were scoring it, it’s not like you have a lot to do, you might want to try it on the broken one first.

Call your local Lowes or Depot and see if they offer cutting services. Some stores do and they only charge a small fee. A co worker once told me it was something like $ 1 a cut

The farm and garden side of CL is a good place to advertise a trade. This forum is intended as a place to exchange information. In Seattle, we have a large group of people who belong to the "Freecycle Network," which has an online structure in place for helping people give away and receive items, all for free (no trades). Try Googling "freecycle network" with your city name. Also, people post the plants they have and the plants they want on "Dave's Garden," and I often see notices about them in the "PlantFiles" section of that website. What I do is Google "PlantFiles Oriental Lily Casablanca" or some other plant name to learn about the plant, and if it's available as a trade
