Small white flowers look like bells

Foxglove makes a captivating addition to cut flower arrangements.

Whether their blossoms nod sleepily or face toward the sun, perennial flowers shaped like bells add a delightful visual interest to your landscape. To ensure these flowers stand out in the crowd, plant them in places that receive the most visibility, such as near the front door. Planting a taller perennial en masse surrounded by an edging of a shorter perennial in a contrasting color that blooms at the same time is a simple formula for an attractive flowerbed.

Tranquil Blue

Bell-shaped,tranquil blue perennial flowers add a relaxing color to your garden from late spring to midsummer. The variety of Italian bugloss (Anchusa azurea) “Loddon Royalist” bears an abundance of small, royal blue flowers in short,medium-sized sprays and grows 31 to 35 inches tall. Beach bluebell (Mertensia simplicissima) produces very small flower heads of pink buds that become sky-blue,downward-facing blossoms and grows 6 to 8 inches tall. Both plants need full sun and grow in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3 through 9.

Crisp White

Crisp,white,bell-shaped flowers really stand out against green foliage. The variety of peachleaf bellflower (Campanula persicifolia) “Takion White” shows off its medium-sized,outfacing blossoms all summer long. It grows 16 to 20 inches tall in USDA zones 2 through 9. The “Snow Thimble” variety of foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) features tall spikes 35 to 47 inches tall covered in medium-sized,downward facing flowers in USDA zones 4 through 9. Foxglove comes in many colors, including “Camelot Lavender, ” “Camelot Cream” and “Camelot Rose.”

Shades of Purple

The purple shades of these bell-shaped flowers really pop when you plant them among yellow or peach blossoms. “Hidcote” is a variety of ornamental nodding onion (Allium cernuum) that bears small,rosy-lilac flowers on medium-sized nodding heads from late spring to midsummer. This North American native grows 12 to 18 inches tall in USDA zones 3 through 9. Blue grassy bells (Edraianthus graminifolius) displays medium-sized,upward facing,violet-blue flowers from early to midsummer in USDA zones 4 through 9. It grows 4 to 6 inches tall.

Sunny Yellow

You can create a warm and sunny color scheme when you plant yellow bell-shaped flowers along with orange and red blossoms. The golden clematis (Clematis tangutica) “Radar Love” bears small, slightly nodding flowers from midsummer to early fall and thrives in poor soil. This climbing vine grows 12 to 156 inches long in USDA zones 2 through 9. “Gotham” is a variety of fancy-leaf coral bells (Heuchera) that puts out small spikes of petite flowers on stems 4 to 6 inches tall. It has purple-black foliage and grows in USDA zones 4 through 9. Fancy-leaf coral bells comes with blossoms in a variety of colors, including “Venus, ” which has white flowers with variegated leaves.

On the wall next to me and it reminds me of my grandparents home when I was a small child.
It is a two story ,gable roof, with a big covered porch and white picket fence.
Large Oak tree and flowers growing in the yard.
My remembering of my grand parents automatically go with thier house.
Wondered if any one else relates remembering grand ma and grand pa with thier house.

Desperately seeking R. occidental (wild azalea)

2006-09-25 15:59:45 by FishHead

I'm trying to find a native azalea specimen to take cuttings from. These shrubs generally have white flowers with a small splash of pink or yellow ... definitely not the flashy hybridized strains you see at most nurseries.
Do you have one in your back yard that you wouldn't mind parting ways with half-a-dozen small fresh branches?
Do you know of a good local wild source somewhere in the Bay Area? Lets go for a hike -I'll bring the rooting hormone!
Have you seen some at a local native nursery? -where!~?
If you have answered yes to any of these questions, PLEASE let me know.
Thanks!
